the source of peace

Peace comes from above. Peace does not come from having the newest and nicest house, the best cars, a wardrobe full of clothes and shoes, or all the gadgets that money can buy. But wait, that’s weird because that is not what society tells us. Money can’t buy peace or contentment? If I just have this, if I attain that status, if I get past the next obstacle, THEN I will have peace. You live your life trying to chase peace and chase contentment. Real peace is the peace that you feel during the midst of struggles, in the midst of fixing up your house, in the midst of the dishwasher breaking, the rain washing away at least 50 spots in the yard (mostly around the fence line so your dogs can squeeze right out), in the midst of your heater breaking, a dog pooping on the floor, in the midst of I have somewhere to be every night this we and I have a huge test on Friday that I don’t feel prepared for, in the midst of the times you think you might lose your crazy little mind. During the madness of life, that is when true peace has a chance to change your life.

Peace comes with patience and contentment. Content to be yourself, in your home, living within your financial limits. Patience to wait on what’s next. I am talking to myself more than anyone right now. I am not a patient person (and Brent will say “AMEN!”) I start getting anxious if I have to wait for more than 5 minutes on something, much less wait a year or two or five.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 – Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

Place your trust in the source of Peace. Start to shift your mindset to the things that really matter. All of those things that I mentioned above that went wrong, do they really matter compared to real issues that people face every day? When you start to feel worn or anxious, give your anxiety to God. His peace far exceeds our expectations and understanding.
